About us

Disputatio publishes first-rate articles and discussion notes on all aspects of analytical philosophy, but especially those dealing with current issues in the philosophies of language, logic, and mind, and also in epistemology and metaphysics, written in English or Portuguese.

Founded in 1996, Disputatio was published by the Portuguese Philosophy Society until 2002. Disputatio is a non-profit editorial venture. It is published by the Philosophy Centre (University of Lisbon) since 2002 and is sponsored by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia and Gradiva Publicações.

Disputatio is the leading philosophy journal in the Portuguese-speaking world and is presently classified in category INT2 (previously B) of the ERIH ranking of the European Science Foundation, and it is classified B in the Australian Association of Philosophy and Australian Research Council ranking.
Disputatio practices triple blind refereeing, and follows the "Guidelines for the Handling of Manuscripts by the Editors of Philosophy Journals" of the APA.

Disputatio collaborates with the Portuguese Society for Analytic Philosophy, sponsoring the Disputatio Lecture at the National Meeting in Analytic Philosophy (ENFA). The Disputatio Lecturer of 2012, at ENFA5 in Braga, is Jennifer Saul (University of Sheffield).

Disputatio is covered by the following abstracting and indexing services:

Philosophers who have published in Disputatio include Daniel Dennett, Ned Block, Hilary Putnam, John Searle, Paul Boghossian, Tyler Burge, Simon Blackburn, Bob Hale, John Broome.

Special issues

Disputatio accepts proposals for special issues of edited volumes on specific relevant topics or philosophical problems. A detailed proposal is to be made to the editors of the journal, including a brief description of the topic, and why it is relevant, information about the editor or editors of the special issue, and of the contributors. The proposal should also contain an abstract or summary of the papers to be included. The editors of the special number of the journal must guarantee that the papers included are suitably refereed. The editorial committee has the final word on the acceptance of the included articles.
